Last Friday, the 15th of January  the band GrooveSession performed live at The Mitten Building – located in downtown Redlands, on Fifth Street.  The band performed songs from their albums California Hurricane and Memoirs of Niwa, and paid tribute to David Bowie by covering his famous hit, “Let’s Dance.”

Several University of Redlands students were in attendance, including freshman student Angie Petschek.“The band’s natural performance was pleasant to listen to and experience,” Petschek said.

GrooveSession’s unique style contributed to a relaxed and merry ambiance. Food and drinks were served, and spectators were free to chat and eat as they enjoyed the evening. The music was in close proximity to the audience, which allowed for an intimate experience with the band. The brassy vocals of lead singer, Manny Sanchez, resonated with that of Sublime’s late Bradley Nowell. GrooveSession’s rock music draws from both funk and reggae influences.

GrooveSession’s performance marked the start of the Friday night concert season at The Mitten Building with upcoming shows including the next show on Friday, January 22nd featuring performances from Maria Sweet, Don’t Kick Jimmy, and Kiksim Crux. Then, on January 29th, performances from Small Spaces, Talk to Healer, and Johnny Crimes are scheduled. These all ages events will be held weekly with no cover before 8 p.m. and $2 after; doors open at 7 p.m. and bands play from 8:00 to 11:30 p.m.
